We wanted to create an American Football game that didn't try to compete with other games on the market such as Madden, and so we developed a 5-on-5 arcade style game.
The main challenge was making it accessible to new Players of the sport but also easy to pick up and play for the rookie player with simple tap and swipe controls.
As well as the concept and main design of the game and working closely with the artists, programmers, and junior designers I was responsible for creating wireframes of the menus before bringing the final menus to life with the in-house menu creation tool.
One of the biggest joys of working on this game was the ability to direct the motion capture shoot as Centroid. This first required me create a list of American Football moves the game would require the actors to perform. I worked closely with the Lead Animator to work out what cuts would be required so we got the motions back in the correct way to be pieced together. Then during the days shooting I would be on the floor with American Footballers, guiding them and going through the moves required as well as letting them give feedback if a move should be done in an alternate way.
The game had several interpretations over the years, and on two occasions had actual NFL stars fronting the game.
Patrick Willis
A former American Football Linebacker who played his entire eight-year career with the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the 49ers in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
Jamaal Charles
A former American Football (NFL) Running Back. He played college football for the University of Texas, and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
Charles is the all-time leader in yards per carry among players with at least 1,000 carries with 5.38 yards per carry.
